The Rape Crisis Center of Summit and Medina Counties
759 West Market Street Akron, OH 44303
  • By Phone: For information about giving assets (including securities, cash, life insurance, real estate and retirement plans) and gifts of significance (such as planned giving programs like bequests, annuities, memorials and charitable trusts), contact us at 330-374-0740x 104. These legacy gifts not only keep giving, but also may provide personal and estate tax incentives for you.

 CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS (IRA)

With only a few months remaining until the Charitable IRA provision expires December 31, 2011, now is the time for qualified donors to determine if this option is a beneficial way to contribute to the Rape Crisis Center.

The provision exempts from taxable income any funds transferred ("rolled over") from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified charitable organization such as Rape Crisis Center. The rules are simple:

  • The donor must be age 70½ or older and own a traditional or Roth IRA. Other retirement plans, such as pensions, 401(k) plans and others are not eligible.
  • The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000 per individual. If your spouse has a separate IRA account you can each contribute up to $100,000 per tax year.
  • Only the IRA administrator can transfer gifts to qualified organizations. If the IRA owner withdraws funds and then contributes to the charity separately, amounts withdrawn will be included in the donor's gross income.

Donors are urged to contact their IRA administrator or tax advisor to discuss this giving strategy. For information about making a gift to Rape Crisis Center, please contact Dana Zedak at 330-374-0740 x 104 or Danaz@scmcbws.org.
