The Basics Online Training

__________________________________________

Welcome Everyone:

On behalf of Battered Women's Shelter & The Rape Crisis Center welcome and thank you for choosing us for your volunteer experience. Being small non-profit organizations, we could not function without volunteers. The heart of our agencies lies within our volunteer program.

Over the past months, our Outreach Department has placed the final touches on our new training program referred to 'The Basics'. The Basics training is a program that will prepare you, as a volunteer, to provide Crisis Intervention to survivors of domestic violence, all types of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking.

The design of this training will allow you to complete part of the training online, and then provide you with supplemental information and activities in the classroom. At the conclusion of The Basics you be equipped to volunteer in either Battered Women's Shelter or The Rape Crisis Center.

Please take the time to read all of the training tutorials provided as you will be quizzed on this information during the in-class portion on the days assigned.

Section One Quiz:

  • The History & Service Overview
  • The 101's
  • Cultural Competency
  • Special Populations

 Section Two Quiz:

  • Children Who Witness Violence
  • The Legal System in Ohio

It is mandatory for you to complete the 20 hours of  this online training and the 20 hours of in-class training in order for you to successfully become 'The Basics Volunteer' within our agencies.

Important Information:

Please contact our Volunteer Coordinators, Brittany Paliswat at 330-860-5635 or Dave Rich at 330-860-5636 if there are any questions.

It is MANDATORY to be ON TIME. Please allow yourself sufficient time to get to the training site.

Report to 759 West Market Street, Akron for the first day of 'The Basics' training.

'The Basics' training will provide a supplemental manual and bottled water during the training. Feel free to bring dinner or snacks if you like.
