Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer or intern with the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties! We are very excited that you are considering our organization as the place you want to serve. We believe volunteers are essential to the services we provide. Because of your passion, dedication and service, we are able to fulfill our mission to "…end sexual assault through education and awareness, and to empower, support and advocate for all those affected by this crime."

The Rape Crisis Center expects volunteers and interns to:

  • Keep all information regarding clients of the Rape Crisis Center confidential
  • Be dedicated to ending sexual assault
  • Want to learn about sexual assault and its impact on survivors and the community
  • Show compassion and empathy to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, ability, age, or sexual orientation
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to help
  • Interact in a professional and respectful way toward all staff, volunteers, and service providers from other agencies

What our volunteers and interns can expect from RCC:

  • To be treated as a colleague and fellow professional
  • Free in-depth volunteer training
  • Continuing training and education to stay current and updated in the field
  • Meaningful opportunities to serve
  • Emotional support and staff mentoring to assist with the impact of working with sexual assault survivors
  • Professional references upon request

How to Become a Rape crisis center Volunteer or Intern

  1. Look at our volunteer and intern opportunities. This will help you get a feel for the many roles in which you can serve
  2. Complete and submit a volunteer or intern application.
*If you are seeking an internship, we request that you contact us at least one semester in advance in order to allow us time for the interview and placement process. Intern applications are due, at the very latest, 4 weeks prior to the next scheduled volunteer training. Please be informed that intern applications that are received past that date will only be considered for volunteer opportunities, not for an internship.
  3. Prospective volunteers will be contacted by the Outreach Coordinator to schedule an interview prior to acceptance into the volunteer training class.  The Director of RCC will contact prospective interns for an interview.
  4. Attend an interview with the Outreach Coordinator or Director.  Please note that our interview process is structured similarly to a job interview and not all candidates will be accepted into the training class. Keep this in mind as you prepare.
  5. Within one week after your final interview, we will contact you in regards to your acceptance. If accepted, you will be given all of the information you need to attend training at that time.
  6. Attend trainings. We ask that you complete all sessions of the training, regardless of which activities you wish to participate in with our agency, before you can start volunteering or interning.
  7. Sign up for the volunteer experiences that are right for you!
