How You Can Help

The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit County's volunteers are crucial to our efforts to provide high-quality services and programs for sexual assault survivors, their loved ones, and the overall community. Our volunteers are highly valued and supported in their service to the agency. Benefits of volunteering with the Rape Crisis Center include: free training, convenient schedules, continuing education and most of all - a rewarding experience. Volunteer Opportunities

 24-Hour Crisis Hotline - Provide crisis intervention, support, information and referral to sexual assault survivors, co-survivors, and community members. Serve during scheduled shifts in the daytime, evenings or weekends; calls are routed to your telephone.

Hospital Advocacy - Provide support, information and referral to sexual assault survivors undergoing forensic medical exams and evidence collection. Serve during scheduled on-call periods in the daytime, evenings or weekends.

Special Events & Fundraisers - Assist with planning and conducting special events such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Ride for Healing, and Take Back the Night. Serve evenings and/or on weekends.

Community Education & Outreach - Help raise awareness about sexual violence and its prevention to audiences in varied community settings, e.g. schools, businesses, community events, places of worship, etc. Serve during business hours, evenings, or weekends.

Professional Training - Lend your expertise in planning or facilitating workshops and/or conferences for professionals involved in working with survivors of sexual violence. Serve primarily during business hours with occasional evenings.

Office/Clerical - Assist with telephone calls, mailings, typing and materials preparation for events. Serve primarily during business hours.

 

Additional Volunteer Opportunities

 

 The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit County and

 the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina

are accepting applications for new Board Members.

Applicants must have a passion for issues relating to the mission of the organizations. Once accepted, Board Members serve a 2 year term and may remain on the Board for a total of six years.  Currently the Board of Directors meets every other month, with sub-committees meeting on the “off” month.  Board Members are currently being sought to fill positions with skills in the following areas:  fiscal oversight, nursing, social services, clergy and educators.  Any person wishing to be considered for the Board of Directors should contact Executive Director Terri Heckman at 330-374-0740, ext. 201 or by email at Terrih@scmcbws.org for additional information.
