What's Happening & When
September 25th-October 2nd, 2010
The Battered Women's Shelter and Rape Crisis Center of Medina & Summit Counties have come together with The Love Initiative to create the AKRON PEACE PROJECT.
The AKRON PEACE PROJECT's objective is to encourage peace within ourself, home and community. The project is hosting an activity-filled week that will take place September 25th-October 2nd, 2010 throughout the City of Akron. Click here for a list of all of the events!
With the help of volunteers, sponsors and supporters, activities will include an official proclamation of "Akron Peace Week" by the City of Akron, dog walk, speakers, interactive discussions, art show, meditation, traveling International Peace Museum exhibit, film, music (featuring Zach, founder of the Love Initiative and co-counder of Akron Peace Project) and more!
Proceeds stemming from this event will help support the Battered Women's Shelter and Rape Crisis Center in their efforts to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence on their road to healing and peace.

Volunteer Training Class
The Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties is pleased to announce that we are currently enrolling individuals for our November 2010 volunteer training class. No experience is necessary.

Via a comprehensive four week training program, the Rape Crisis Center provides interested candidates with the necessary skills needed to assist the organization in meeting the needs of the people that we serve. The dates and times are as follows:
Monday ,November 1st 5:30-9:00p ; Wednesday, November 3rd 5:30-9:00p ; Saturday, November 6th 9a-4p ; Monday, November 8th 5:30-9:00p ; Wednesday, November 10th 5:30-9:00p ; Monday, November 15th 5:30-9:00p and Wednesday November 17th 5:30-9:00p.
Your concern and dedication to survivor recovery, community education and outreach are a large part of our success in Medina and Summit counties. Our volunteers can be found throughout the community serving in the following ways:
Rape Crisis Center Hotline – Our 24/7 hotline could not exist without the empathetic community members who respond to residents in crisis.
Hospital Advocates - In partnership with forensic nurse examiners, advocates provide support, information, and referral to rape survivors during the medical exam and evidence collection process.
Community Education and Outreach – Volunteers can choose to assist with presentations to civic groups, schools, churches, businesses and other organizations interested in stopping rape through education.
Special Events and Fundraisers – Numerous events throughout the year are staffed by volunteers that assist in every dimension from promotion to folding leaflets.
Student Intern Opportunities – College students interested in interning with RCC can discuss opportunities for projects.
